My name is Jens Lapinski. I am the CEO and a co-founder of aiHit, a London-based, VC-backed business information services company. Before co-founding aiHit, I was the VP Analysis & Consulting at Library House, a business information and research company with a focus on private companies.
Prior to joining the business information industry, I was a researcher in the biosciences and completed a PhD at the Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge where I worked on rotifers: little aquatic animals (real animals, with a skeleton and muscles, they are not bacteria) which can loose all their body water and can then survive for decades in this dried state (anhydrobiosis), until they are thrown back into water, at which point they start to swell up and swim around again. Very cool. During this time, I published a few papers that disproved the current theory on how organisms achieve successful anhydrobiosis. See here, here, and here.
I also developed some clean technology for water treatment at the time. The university covered it in their annual report and we published this paper here. I still think the desiccation aspects of rotifers were somewhat more interesting…
This is a personal site on which I am typing up my thoughts on start-ups, investment, and venture capital.
